The Failure of Information Technology

The failures of information technology are in plain sight every day. Yet, we go on doing the same thing.

We fix, we patch, we document and we move on to the next thing.

And the next thing is more of the same.

We learn, yet we don't learn.

We try to fix the problem by doing the same thing that we did before. Maybe we try a bit harder. Maybe we try a different tool. It is different, but it is the same.

If we just put in the right tools, the right process and the right people, everything will be fine.

There is a continuum that runs from overly simplified to overly complex, and there are flaws all along the way.

Errors of simplification abound. But errors of complexity also abound. And there really isn't a Goldilocks solution in the middle that works consistently.

It is always too much, and it is never enough.
