On Schedule
Scheduling is an art.
Maybe there is some science to it, but it is amazing how we try to optimize with schedules.
Some schedules are better than others. Scheduling projects across multiple stakeholders is one of the great management illusions out there.
Waiting is such a big part of scheduling. Waiting for:
- information
- resources
- approval
There is planned waiting and unplanned waiting (delays). This is inevitable in complex projects. The more complex the project, the more potential for delays there are.
With scheduling complex projects, it is a good idea to front load the information risks.
While you can't know everything in advance, it is good to learn early on what you are facing and plan the schedule accordingly.
