Deciding the Disconnect
Even in the Internet age, the mass production mentality still dominates organization design and information flow.
Specialized knowledge is a rare commodity, so trying to optimize throughput for this resource makes sense.
But the process creates information bottlenecks and queues.
Queues create queues and many of these are invisible.
Work gets lost in hidden queues and the disconnects happen.
But the bigger question is does information and work have to be designed this way?
