Assessing Information
Assessing the value of information is extremely difficult. There are so many questions?
- Where did it come from?
- What is the source?
- Is it accurate?
- Is it meaningful?
- Is it well known?
- Do we need to keep a record of it?
- Does it tell us anything?
- How can we use it?
The list could on. But it is not practical to make that judgement on every piece of information that passes through an organization.
But in many ways, we treat every piece of data as equally valuable.
The need to know information is more useful than the nice to know but information systems require the same resources for either kind of information.
